Sinking Our Teeth into Abigail
NEXODUS brought their post-production agility and visual effects expertise to Universal Pictures' Abigail, a 2024 vampire horror-comedy directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The film follows a group of kidnappers who find themselves in way over their heads after abducting the daughter of a mysterious underworld figure.
Led by VFX Supervisor Ryan Urban, the team at NEXODUS completed 70 shots across the film, stepping in to tackle a range of creative and technical challenges that arose deep into the editorial process.

To tighten performances and enhance pacing, the NEXODUS team stitched together complex split-screens, seamlessly blending different takes of handheld, actor-driven shots. Despite the fluid blocking and dynamic handheld cinematography, NEXODUS was able to create invisible changes that went unnoticed even under scrutiny often delivering version-one finals.
While the core team progressed with scheduled VFX shots, NEXODUS also responded to last-minute preview screening needs by assembling a nimble temp team. This squad jumped in to deliver quick-turnaround visual effects for rough cuts, ensuring the film could be tested with audiences on the big screen without the distraction of unfinished visuals.
In addition to editorial enhancements, NEXODUS delivered a wide range of invisible effects including removing unwanted elements, fixing continuity issues, and replacing green screens. The team digitally corrected a bend in a practical rebar prop and added a CG stake to elevate the tension during the film’s climactic battle, both for a shot in the final film and a separate shot in the promotional trailer.

By delivering fast, high-quality work across a diverse set of needs, NEXODUS became an invaluable partner in the post-production process. Their adaptability and attention to detail helped sharpen the film’s visual storytelling, reinforcing Abigail's unique blend of horror, style, and dark humor.
Abigail is now available to buy, rent, or stream.
